The USD 453 million ‘Creating and Sustaining Markets for Energy Efficiency’ project, synergises funding and support from four technical and financing partners, to accelerate the pace of mitigating climate change and creating pathways for a more sustainable future.

The fund includes a Global Environment Facility (GEF) grant of USD18.85 million and co-financing from Asian Development Bank (ADB) of USD 434.2 million in form of loans and equity, including a USD 200 million loan USD 1 million as grant.

While the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have been appointed as the implementing agencies, EESL is the executing agency. EESL will also set up an Energy Efficiency Revolving Fund (EERF), a sustainable funding mechanism of energy efficiency projects in the country as a part of the initiative. Out of the USD 18.85 million grant available under the project, USD 13 million has been earmarked for EERF. Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) will be a co-financing partner and will contribute to increasing EESL’s overall business operations.
